Every advanced civilization eventually discovers which resources are truly irreplaceable.

Human organs are rarely among them.

Organ Foundries are industrial-scale biological manufacturing facilities capable of producing replacement tissues, organs, and complex anatomical systems. Using patient-derived cellular material, these facilities grow compatible biological structures with minimal risk of rejection.

Modern Foundries operate continuously. Vast cultivation halls contain millions of developing tissues at various stages of maturation, from simple vascular grafts to fully functional hearts, lungs, kidneys, and engineered organs unique to particular Clades.

Many settlements maintain strategic organ reserves alongside food, water, and medical supplies. Catastrophic injuries that would once have been fatal are often reduced to logistical problems.

The largest Foundries have become economic centers in their own right, exporting specialized biological products throughout the Solar System.

Their workers sometimes joke that they manufacture spare parts.

The joke becomes less funny when the spare parts can think.
